Update: Project Star Sleep
Hi Friends! I must say thank you and I feel so overwhelmed and touched by your advice and warnings on my previous post. I mean, obviously, I didn't know better about sleeping on the beach. I seriously know next to nothing about it. Didn't know I need a fire. And most importantly, as unanimously pointed out by all, I need a friend to do it together.
I didn't think of needing a fire, because the weather in Malaysia is pretty warm, but I wouldn't know about the temperature beside sea... probably cold! Creatures? Hmmm... crabs? The Loch Ness monster?
And I didn't think of needing a friend, because of the hassle of planning things together e.g. when my friend would be free, whether there's any friend of mine crazy enough to do this with me, and most importantly, I had always been doing a lot of things alone, for many years.
But I do agree that having another person with me, sleeping under no protection - no ceiling, no walls, etc. would be safer, and yes, more enjoyable, with memories to cherish down the road.
Actually, after thinking through, I had decided to abandon this plan of mine to sleep on the beach, because it would be uneconomical to drive all that distance to a beach just to risk my life to sleep there, and then return the next day. And of course, I don't think there's any friend crazy enough to do this with me. And on most of the beaches, which are private beaches, having a fire is allowed for a couple of hours only, but not all through the night. Besides, who's going to keep the fire going when me or my friend is sleeping?
So I guess it wasn't such a good plan, huh? But I'm still keen to sleep under the stars! So I have another plan hatched..... to go to the outdoor stadium near my house and sleep there. It's a public stadium, so anyone can just go there to jog or run or play football. But I haven't heard of whether sleeping there will be allowed. Shouldn't be a problem! Besides, the guards normally sleeps, as I had noticed. And I don't think they make patrols IN the stadium other than standing there at the entrance. There's really nothing to steal from the stadium anyways.
So this should be pretty much safer as compared to sleeping on the beach. And I don't think I would need a fire, because that will definitely be not allowed to have in the stadium.
Here's a list of things I think I will need, and please feel free to add on:
1. Mosquito repellent
2. Warm clothing
3. Blanket
4. Milk
5. Cheese
6. Cookie
7. Camera
Hmmm, I think that's about it. And I don't think I will ask anyone to do this with me, because I want to try it alone. If it's great, I will do it AGAIN, with another person! LOL
So the date will be the same, this coming Friday night. I'd probably go there around 1 am, and sleep till 7 am. Don't worry, I will take pictures :)
Thank You Lord for a good weather this coming Friday night and early Saturday morning!

I can't help but to laugh out LOUD! You went from sleeping under the stars on an exotic beach to now sleeping under pollutions of a city stadium? First of all, there won't be any stars in the city! You need to go to a place with complete darkness to realy see (and I mean SEE)some nice stars!
Didn't you say you were coming to the U.S soon? What part of the U.S are you going to be in? Heck, if this is really really one of your all time goals, I'll take you camping the RIGHT WAY! (wow, I just offered to take a guy camping whom I only know virtually).
Anyways, if you're still going to do your STADIUM SLEEP OVER, I'd suggest the following extra items:
-a whistle around your neck (in case of emergency)
-A flashlight
-wear bright colors so others can easily see you,in case of emergency you're easily spotted (orange, red, yellow)
-a cell phone fully charged
Well ... if you must do this alone ... then I guess your new plan is a lot safer (I hope). But I agree with Ron, since you're planning to come to the US soon ... why not wait and have a fabulous experience. And Ron has even offered to take you ... how cool is that!!! There are many great camping spots in the US ... safe and with brilliant star gazing opportunities ... and then ... you might be able to take your "beloved" with you.
Have fun!

Milk, Cheese, Cookie?! I was thinking more like Mace, Cell Phone, and big really big friend:)
I think you should wait and take Ron up on his offer. So many great places her to camp and really get close to nature.
Wow! Ron, I'm speechless... that is so nice of you! I had never had the opportunity to go camping, you know, hence, I had never had the chance to sleep under the stars. And spoken like a true expert camper, you just know the stuffs I would have never thought of! Like the whistle, or the flashlight! I don't know if your offer will still stand by the time I reach the States sometime in August, but just in case, I'll be going to Columbia, Missouri. I would love to go to the best place to sleep under the stars, so I do hope you could take me. And yes, I agree with Small Footprints and Inge' that going to the REAL place to sleep under the stars beats sleeping in the city stadium BIG TIME! Thanks! Will definitely look forward to my first camp in my life :)
LOL Inge'... a MACE??? I'm picturing those gladiators of ancient Rome waving those menacing maces in the Colosseum, dueling brutish minotaurs ;)
John,
August is a perfect time to go camping! The weather is great during that time of the year. I live pretty far from Missouri, but maybe we can meet somewhere half way to camp. I'm definately up for that. Bring your friends and I'll bring some of mine. My group of friends go camping every year--each year a different location. We've been to Kentucky, California, parts of Canada and lots more. I'm the head planner for the group, so I can definately suggest somewhere in Missouri or in that proximity. I'll have to do some research to find best locations. But trust me, you will have a time of your LIFE! When we camp, we go all out. We don't just sit under a tent and tell ghost stories, we actually explore and live off the land--we "rough it", as they call it.
I cannot go thru a single year without camping with my friends. And believe me, after you've gone once, you'll always want to go again. The friendship we share while living off the earth is amazing! Hope you can make it. We'll definately be in touch to plan this out as August comes closer.
Ron
AWESOME!!! Thanks so much Ron! Will definitely look forward to it.
